One of the most impressive and spacious kitchens I’ve ever seen belonged to a friend of mine who lived in an elite part of town. The design of the kitchen was what they called the open type. It was a kitchen with no walls but a long counter separating the space with the living room. The counter is a wide expanse constructed of stainless steel material. Opposite the counter is a neat arrangement of kitchen equipment. The oven, refrigerator and the wine refrigerator are all built in the same dimensions and were of shiny chrome and black material. The kitchen sink had double basins and stainless steel fixtures.

What amazed me the most is the size of the wine refrigerator and the amount of its contents. This appliance was of the same size as a regular 6 cubic feet refrigerator with the exception that it had a clear glass door where you can have a good view of the wine bottles that were neatly on display. The ingenious wave like shelves held the bottles in place organized in a row in a semi-horizontal position.

Wine refrigerators are truly exceptional if you want to impress your visitors with your wine collection. They are a great enhancement in a kitchen with a contemporary design.

One of the things I miss about our ancestral home is the huge kitchen hutch we have in the main dining room. The main dining room is a wide expanse of space where our family gathers for meals during special occasions like Christmas and New Year. It has a huge dining table with 12 intricately carved chairs. It is a large cabinet made of hard wood, 3 glass paned cabinet doors and several layers of drawers underneath. My mom’s precious sterling silverware and folded linen napkins are kept in those drawers. I always looked forward to having those special gatherings in that dining room. The hutch contributed to that opulent feeling whenever we had our parties in that room.
